Living Water · John 4:1–42
The Woman at the Well
Jesus went out of His way to meet one woman with a complicated story, and her encounter changed a whole town.
Jesus “needed to go through Samaria” (John 4:4). Most travelers avoided it. Jesus went straight to a well at noon to meet a woman everyone else avoided.
Big idea
Jesus knows your whole story and still offers you living water.
Notes
- Jesus crosses every barrier. Race, gender, religion, and reputation all said no. Jesus said yes.
- He offers what no well can give. “Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst” (v. 14).
- He tells the truth in love. Jesus named her past without shaming her, then revealed Himself as the Messiah (vv. 16–26).
- Encounter leads to witness. She left her water jar and told her town, “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did” (v. 29). Many believed.
Reflect
- What “water jar” might Jesus be asking you to leave behind?
- Who in your life needs to hear what Jesus has done for you?
