In plain words

We believe the Bible is God’s inspired Word. We believe in one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He died for our sins and rose again, and that anyone who turns to Him in faith is forgiven and made new.

As a Pentecostal church, we also believe that the same Holy Spirit who filled the first disciples on the Day of Pentecost still fills believers today, with power to live for Jesus and to tell others about Him. We pray for the sick, we expect God to move, and we look forward to the return of Christ.

The Well is affiliated with the Assemblies of God and the Oklahoma Ministry Network, and we hold to its Statement of Fundamental Truths, summarized below.

Four core convictions

Jesus saves, heals, fills,
and is coming again.

  • Salvation

Jesus died and rose again so that anyone who repents and believes can be forgiven and made new.

    Romans 10:9

  • Baptism in the Holy Spirit

God still fills His people with the Holy Spirit and power, just as He did on the Day of Pentecost.

    Acts 1:8

  • Divine Healing

Jesus still heals. We pray for the sick with faith, trusting the God who is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

    James 5:14–15

  • The Second Coming

Jesus is coming again. That hope shapes how we live, how we love, and why we share the gospel.

    1 Thessalonians 4:16–17

The Scriptures Inspired

The Bible, Old and New Testaments, is inspired by God. It is His revelation to us and the infallible, authoritative rule for what we believe and how we live.

2 Timothy 3:15–17 · 1 Thessalonians 2:13 · 2 Peter 1:21

The One True God

There is one true God, eternally self-existent, the Creator and Redeemer of all. He has revealed Himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Deuteronomy 6:4 · Isaiah 43:10–11 · Matthew 28:19 · Luke 3:22

The Deity of the Lord Jesus Christ

Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God. He was born of a virgin, lived without sin, worked miracles, died on the cross in our place, rose bodily from the dead, and is exalted at the right hand of the Father.

Matthew 1:23 · Hebrews 7:26 · Acts 2:22 · 1 Corinthians 15:3–4 · 2 Corinthians 5:21 · Philippians 2:9–11

The Fall of Man

God created humanity good and upright. By choosing to sin, mankind fell, and with that fall came both physical and spiritual death.

Genesis 1:26–27 · Genesis 2:17 · Genesis 3:6 · Romans 5:12–19

The Salvation of Man

Our only hope of redemption is the shed blood of Jesus Christ. Salvation is received by repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus. We are saved by grace through faith, born again by the Holy Spirit, and made heirs of God. The Spirit witnesses within us, and a life of righteousness and true holiness follows.

Luke 24:47 · John 3:3 · Romans 10:13–15 · Ephesians 2:8 · Titus 2:11 · Titus 3:5–7 · Romans 8:16

The Ordinances of the Church

Water baptism by immersion is commanded for all who repent and believe; it declares that we have died with Christ and been raised to walk in new life. The Lord’s Supper, the bread and the cup, remembers His suffering and death and looks ahead to His return. It is for all believers, until He comes.

Matthew 28:19 · Acts 10:47–48 · Romans 6:4 · 1 Corinthians 11:26

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit

Every believer is entitled to, and should earnestly seek, the baptism in the Holy Spirit, the promise of the Father. It was the normal experience of the early church. It is distinct from and subsequent to the new birth, and it brings power for life and service and the gifts of the Spirit.

Luke 24:49 · Acts 1:4, 8 · Acts 8:12–17 · Acts 10:44–46 · 1 Corinthians 12:1–31

The Initial Physical Evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is witnessed by the initial physical sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance. This is the same in essence as the gift of tongues, but different in purpose and use.

Acts 2:4 · 1 Corinthians 12:4–10, 28

Sanctification

Sanctification is separation from what is evil and dedication to God. Scripture calls us to holiness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit we are able to obey. We grow in it as we identify by faith with Christ’s death and resurrection and yield ourselves daily to the Spirit.

Romans 12:1–2 · 1 Thessalonians 5:23 · Hebrews 12:14 · Romans 6:1–13 · Galatians 2:20

The Church and Its Mission

The Church is the Body of Christ and the dwelling place of God by His Spirit. Its reason for being is to reach the world with the gospel, to worship God, to build up believers into the image of Christ, and to show God’s love and compassion to everyone.

Ephesians 1:22–23 · Ephesians 2:22 · Acts 1:8 · Matthew 28:19–20 · Ephesians 4:11–16 · James 1:27

The Ministry

The Lord has provided a divinely called and scripturally ordained ministry to lead the Church in evangelism, worship, building up the Body, and meeting human need with love and compassion.

Mark 16:15–20 · John 4:23–24 · Ephesians 4:11–16 · Matthew 25:37–40

Divine Healing

Divine healing is an integral part of the gospel. Deliverance from sickness is provided for in the atonement and is the privilege of all believers.

Isaiah 53:4–5 · Matthew 8:16–17 · James 5:14–16

The Blessed Hope

The resurrection of those who have died in Christ, and the catching up together with them of believers who are alive at the Lord’s coming, is the imminent and blessed hope of the Church.

1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 · Romans 8:23 · Titus 2:13 · 1 Corinthians 15:51–52

The Millennial Reign of Christ

The second coming of Christ includes the rapture of the saints, followed by His visible return with His saints to reign on earth for a thousand years. That reign will bring the salvation of national Israel and universal peace.

Zechariah 14:5 · Matthew 24:27, 30 · Revelation 19:11–14 · Revelation 20:1–6 · Romans 11:26–27 · Isaiah 11:6–9

The Final Judgment

There will be a final judgment in which the wicked dead are raised and judged according to their works. Everyone not found written in the Book of Life will be separated from God in everlasting punishment, the second death.

Matthew 25:46 · Mark 9:43–48 · Revelation 20:11–15 · Revelation 21:8

The New Heavens and the New Earth

According to His promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness lives.

2 Peter 3:13 · Revelation 21–22
